SPD Announces SAFE Campaign Participation 2019

Gepostet am 01.

The Sevierville Police Department is partnering with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) for its fifth annual Seatbelts Are For Everyone (SAFE) campaign. This statewide initiative is designed to increase seatbelt usage and child passenger safety restraint usage through the implementation of occupant-protection programs, public events, and checkpoints throughout local communities across Tennessee. The SAFE campaign begins February 1 and concludes August 1.

“In Tennessee, about 50% of traffic fatalities each year are unbelted,” said SPD Chief Joseph Manning. “This just isn’t acceptable. Please help us save lives by ensuring that you, your children, family and friends use their seatbelts and child safety seats every time you travel.”

2019 will be the sixth year that the THSO has sponsored the SAFE campaign.

„Im Jahr 2016 betrug die durchschnittliche Anschnallquote in Tennessee 88.95 Prozent“, sagte THSO-Direktor Vic Donoho. „Letztes Jahr sank die Nutzungsrate des Staates auf 88.51 Prozent. Unser Ziel in diesem Jahr ist es, durch die SAFE-Kampagne und andere Initiativen zum Schutz der Insassen in ganz Tennessee eine 100-prozentige Nutzung der Sicherheitsgurte zu erreichen.“

In Tennessee, a disproportionate percentage of unrestrained fatalities tend to occur between the hours of 6:00PM and 5:59AM. Historically, approximately fifty percent of Tennessee’s traffic fatalities are unbelted. That percentage increases to nearly sixty when nighttime crashes are examined. Therefore, participating agencies will focus special attention toward nighttime seatbelt enforcement during the SAFE campaign this year.
